Veteran children’s singer/songwriter Lois Young makes a welcome return with her sweet, well-crafted songs for living and learning, about diversity, friendship, play and appreciation for nature. Highlights among the 17 gentle tracks: Sticks and Stones (Always Have a Kind Word), The Caterpillar’s Surprise, Rain Forest Rhapsody and The Ballad of Little Kite (A Tale of Courage). Young’s lilting soprano - she’s professionally trained - is a fitting vehicle for her heartfelt, healthy, child-respecting messages. Young leavens the mix with unforced humor and varied pop styles, making an effortless switch to jazz-scat mode, too (Jammin’ at the Jazz Cat Zoo).
